5 tips & outfits for Holy Week in Seville

Semana-Santa-en-Sevilla

Only in case you're thinking to visit Seville in Holy Week I'll give you 5 tips & outfits that can be useful and necessary. At least, the ones that I consider more important for someone who visits the city for the first time, and doesn't know so well how to dress, behave and don't look like a foreigner.

5 Steps to Survive Holy Week in Seville

1* Holy Week in Seville is celebrated in Spring. The streets are full of people and 'pasos' (religious floats) that tell about the story of Jesus in the Gospels. People dress so elegant (that would be the first golden rule) but the feet should be comfortable always: ballerinas may be the ideal choice. Not runnings or boots.

2* Wear a medium sized bag, if crossed or clutch much better. Closed to the body so that when you have to get into the 'bulla' (agglomeration of people who are around the city center on Holy Week) doesn't bother you or others. Not backpacks please, unless you put it ahead.

3* When you have to cross from one to another street don't do it through Nazarenes (penitents vs Ku Klux Klan, be careful and don't confuse!) when they're walking. Cross only when they stop and do it as quickly and quietly as possible. Be careful because some of them are carrying candles, they can drip on your clothes by accident and wax is hardly to remove!

4* Try to visit other quieter places between the 'pasos'. Walk throught the bridges crossing the Guadalquivir or the Parque de María Luisa (second pic in this post), for example. Find a bar to sit down and forget incense, drums and noise for a while, especially if it's your first time in the Seville Holy Week, and in case you may find the experience a bit 'intense'.

5* And finally, If you go at night enjoy the magic in the Seville's streets, listen 'Saetas' (sacred song) and go up to the Setas de la Encarnación where you can discover a different city. And last, be carefulsometimes it rains: video Holy Week in rainy Seville
