----------------------------------

First thing we visit the following day of coming to Portmouth was Winchester, the first capital of England. We are in the English region of The Downs and The Coast of the Channel, where Romans strengthened the coast to avoid other invasions and where the Church had such an important weight as the State, in the medieval age. Proof of it is Winchester's Cathedral that originally, in 648´s it was a Benedictine monastery, and then a building of Norman still valuable architecture in spite of the transformations suffered along its history up to the XVIth century.
It has got the most ancient chairs of England, of 1308´s and the tomb of the famous writer Jane Austen; a library, with more than 4.000 volumes, one ot them it is Winchester's Bible, masterpiece of the lighting of the XIIth.
In addition, we could enjoy the itinerant exhibition from May 31st to August 31st, called: “Danger, Decay and the Diver. Saving the Cathedral 1905-1912”. It´s interesting to see across images how the building was on the verge of being destroyed because the foundations - that were immersed in water - met threatened by deposits of gravel and rabble that provoked that the weight of the walls saw them above and in 1107 the central tower was ruined, coming onto the XXth to a really critical state. Finally, and with public and private contributions, the Cathedral was repaired by the work of three experts, standing out – because of the risky thing - the diver Robert William Walter who worked up to 6 daily hours putting cement sacks at the foot of the walls.

Other one of the attractions of this city is the Great Hall - what rest of the castle that Guillermo Conquering, duke of Normandy who managed to be King of England, constructed - as the own cathedral in 1097- and that his successor ordered to reconstruct in 1235. Well then, there is the mythical Round Table of the King Arturo.
Stunned by such a volume of History, we decide to dedicate the evening to something so trivial as to do shopping and to connect to Internet from Mc Donald's -wifi free - and to re-put forces for the following day that we were going away to Brighton.
More look for the office. Against boriness … what is.
