Cómo lucir mantilla. Hoy hablamos de una prenda de gala que se usa en ocasiones especiales como bodas, Semana Santa, actos oficiales y toros. En Sevilla hemos celebrado recientemente la XXXI Exhibición de Enganches de la Feria de Abril y esta prenda ha sido protagonista en el atuendo femenino. Aunque no se sabe con exactitud el origen de la mantilla, sí se sabe que -al menos en Sevilla- su uso no solo fue ornamental, sino como prenda de abrigo, llegando a despuntar en el siglo XIX. La emperatriz Eugenia de Montijo, referente de moda en Francia, convirtió el chal de encaje, apoyado en una peina, en la competencia de los sombreros que usaban las señoras de la época. Por su parte, la reina española Isabel II, defendió la prenda de encaje en toda su corte. Ambas fueron sus propulsoras y referentes en la moda de la época. En España, Valencia y Sevilla son las ciudades que siguen manteniendo viva la tradición de vestirse de mantilla, blanca o negra según la ocasión y con un tipo de encajes determinado para que resulte lo más elegante y favorecedor posible: Chantilly, Bruselas, Aguja, Alecon, etc. Otros elementos a considerar son la altura de la Peina, ni muy alta, ni muy abierta; la altura del broche, justo en la nuca; que el pico de delante y el de atrás llegue a la altura de la rodilla, de la falda; la falda o traje que quede exactamente por la rodilla; siempre con zapatos de salón. ¿Te has vestido alguna vez de mantilla?
