To come to the Eugène Boudin and Satie´city it´s necessary to cross a landscape that is the original one of the impressionistic pictures that then the visitor will contemplate in its museum, which takes the name of the famous painter. Its port, old streets, museums and historical and religious monuments are the witnesses of an indisputable architectural richness that does that the tourist yields himself to the city which name, Honfleur, has its origin in the vikinga language. Point of game of big adventures on the sea, nowadays its port is the heart of the city, surrounded by very typical and hight houses, bathed of a capricious and changeable light that gives it an different aspect from every movement of the sun, clouds, rain or any phenomenon that it happens at the skies.
Its image attracts painters and photographers to whom returns them crazy with its constant winks, as already it was, a long time ago, with the famous impresionists who formed in linens its beauty: Cézanne, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet, Renoir and others.
In the center of the old sea suburb a very singular building raises: the Holy Church Catalina (century XV-XVI) that it´s made of wood and the biggest that has ever been builted in France of this material. Its belfry - separated from the church because this one was not bearing its weight - there is a religious art´s museum with exposed emblems and symbols of the city, very ancient.
From there to the museum Eugène Boudin - that has such a richness of works of art that a post would deserve for alone- to the alleys of the old neighborhood, replete with flirts tend and creperías - where we had " to refuel" while it was subsiding the unexpected temporary one of rain that made us arrive late to the music´s museum: The Maisons Satie -
Who comes to Honfleur, must not ignore its Eugène Boudin´s museum with its 1200 m² permanent exhibition of the native painter Boudin and other painters from the 19th century and the 20th: Claude Monet, Saint-Delis, Isabey, Dubourg... Besides temporary exhibitions.
When we went there, we were lucky to enjoy Albert Besnard's itinerant Exhibition - from July 5 to September 29 of 2008-. Parisian painter, who ended his days at Honfleur, son of artist parents, and trained by Alexandre Cabanel, harvested a great number of prize and honors for his brilliant work, placing in the sphere of influence of the impresionists, with a use of the exceptional, and excellent light in the art of the portrait, though also he staggered among the classicism and the symbolism, with his light´s effects and multitude of reflexes. The trips that he did abroad (Algeria, Spain, Morocco and the India) fed his painter's talent landscape painter, creating an imperious desire for exploring new routes in the treatment of the colors.
It also stood out in the creation of big decorations for the Parisian monuments: the Hotel of City, the foyer of the School of Drugstore, the Sorbona´s amphitheatre of chemistry, the maximum limit of the French Comedy, the dome of the Small Palace … An artist with all the letters.
Speaking about artists... Next 9th August at 23.00 hrs. They act in the Savoy -Pza. Zahora - in Caños de la Meca (Cádiz), José Caraoscura y Mhijea. A good dose of flamenco-oriental (Andalusian gipsy-oriental) for summer´s warm nights.
