Sierra Norte de Sevilla

blogueras-de-moda-sevilla

Today we are going on route through the Sierra Norte de Sevilla. We leave Seville city towards the Cascadas del Hueznar and in two hours we have arrived, if there is no traffic, by the A-4. The waterfalls are in the municipality of San Nicolás del Puerto. Of Celtic origin, there passed Romans (witness of it is the stone bridge over the river Galindón) and Arabs. The photo above belongs to the birth of the river Huéznar that is born from water leaks ranging from an aquifer to the surface.

Just 15 minutes from there is the Cerro del Hierro Natural Monument. A very picturesque forest of stones that you will see in this post's photos. You can start the route on foot in the old mining town, built by Englishmen who exploited the area in the late nineteenth century. Nearly two km of trail you will discover the geological formation sculpted for millions of years. Iron ores converted into oxides and hydroxides, tunnels, galleries, rocks of capricious shapes and varied colors. A pleasure for lovers of minerals: hematite, barite, quartz, calcite, oligiston, goethite, malachite, siderite ...

A separate mention deserves the vegetation of the place, intelligently adapted to the rocky area: thyme, rosemary, bitter chamomile, shrubs, strawberry, lentisco, bush, honeysuckle ... Some colors and unique smells, no doubt.

What do I wear to go on a route through the Sierra de Sevilla?

We are in spring, so although winter temperatures are very low in the Sierra de Sevilla, on sunny spring days it is essential to wear a hat or cap to protect the head from possible sunshine and the face of the sun's rays. Of course, high sun protection and comfortable footwear. Short sleeve under the sport jacket, windbreaker or light anorak. Don't forget the sunglasses, a bottle of water and enjoy nature!
