7 Tips for Walking the Camino de Santiago

tips+for+walking+the+camino+de+santiago

Today I want to tell you about 7 tips for walking the Camino de Santiago that I hope will be useful in case you decide to do The Way. The most important things you shouldn't forget in your backpack are: patience, strength, wisdom, happiness, orientation, courage and ability to amaze. I'll explain to you forward why all of that. You've got more 'Way of St James' pictures in my Pinterest.

Happiness. To enjoy the moment of arrival to Santiago, after traveling several stages some up to 30 km. The goal is near.

Compostelana

Paciencia.

Patience. Because when you arrive to Santiago, you still have an hour minimum to wait in line at the Pilgrim's Office where, if you have walked more than 100 km of road, you'll receive your Compostelana (the certificate).

Orientation. To reach the goal you shouldn't miss on the road so orientation is principal. Yellow arrows will guide you even though you stop to contemplate the beauty of the landscape or sustenance at a hostel ,like below in Ligonde 'La Fuente del Peregrino'. Remember... follow the yellow arrow.

Valor.

Courage. To avoid collapse and keep walking. Sing, meditate, remember positive things, enjoy the smells and colors of nature are a good way to cheer you up, fill you with courage and keep walking.

Seamos sabios.

Wisdom. Especially for what to carry in your backpack. Essentials: rainy coat, straw hat, water, suitable footwear (my Hi-Tec were perfect!) and some cosmetics to protect your skin. No need to carry the heavy backpack from one stage to another. There is a shuttle service for 3 euros which does it for you. El Camino is to enjoy, not to suffer. Let us be wise.

Fuerza.

Strength. I believe that without a minimum of previous training is difficult to survive the Way. Mostly because when you finish you've to keep living and you can't spend a week in intensive care recuperating from theneffort. Walking, jogging previously is enought for you not be discouraged.

Ability to Amaze. For that it is necessary to go free of preconception. Leave them at home, weigh less, and enjoy what it offers you another culture, cuisine, language ... amazed by the unusual. Look at that image of Christ in Melide City. His right arm falls next to his body or the strange pilgrim cap, it isn't useful to protect you from the sun, but it's so cute, isn't it? Do not be afraid to surprise.
